Precision Honing Process
Honing is an abrasive machining process used to create a precision ID surface suitable for sealing. A honing head containing honing stones grinds a bore to a desired size and surface finish. Honing a cylinder can correct ovality and a scratched surface, commonly found on repair cylinders. Honing is also used to create a consistent bore size at the right clearance.

Honing FAQs
What size of a piece can you hone?
We can hone from a 2.0” to 22” inside diameter up to a length of 30’.
Will honing fix my scratched cylinder barrel?
Yes, we recommend honing the barrel on most cylinder repairs. It removes light scratches and ovality to ensure optimal seal performance. Honing can also fix deeper scratches but doing so may require additional work or replacement of the piston and gland if the clearance becomes too great.
I just need honing. Do you do honing only jobs?
Absolutely. We’d be happy to help. Get in touch….
